One Last Hurrah for the bwin Team in Melbourne

22:43 Europe/Stockholm January 29, 2011

2011 Aussie MillionsIt's been another spectacular trip to Melbourne for the bwin Team, with the trip a huge success both at the tables and away from it. The Team has soaked u the very best the city has to offer, with one last adventure before the trip is done.

The last event on the busy Team schedule is the farewell dinner tonight at Nobu (followed by the fame bwin Team after party), giving new and old friends alike a chance to say goodbye in proper bwin fashion.

With online finals already running for the next trip to WPT Vienna in March, it may not be goodbye for long, as many bwin Team veterans made the trip here to Melbourne to reunite with old friends, and WPT Vienna may be much the same.

We'll see you again next year, Melbourne, and thanks for having us.

David Gorr is Your 2011 Aussie Millions Champion!

16:09 Europe/Stockholm January 29, 2011

2011 Aussie MillionsIt definitely wasn't an easy walk but veteran player David Gorr has emerged finally as the 2011 Aussie Millions main event champion, taking home $2 million for his efforts here in Melbourne.

Gorr (a local player who's a regular at Crown Casino tournaments) was the obvious crowd favorite but he'd see his chip lead slip away versus British player James Keys, and found himself on the ropes at various stages, only to battle back each time.

Gorr got a bit lucky in the end (rivering a bigger two pair) to topple Keys but that's poker, and he'd fought hard to keep himself in the mix and not let the win slip away after leading for much of the final table action.

And Then There Were Three

10:12 Europe/Stockholm January 29, 2011

2011 Aussie MillionsWe're down to just three players left at the Aussie Millions main event, with David Gorr, Jeff Rossiter, and James Keys each trying to make poker history and walk away with millions of dollars.

Gorr is holding the chip lead at the moment but it's still a close race, with players sitting on decent stacks and no one shorter than 40 big blinds, so this one still might take quite awhile to decide a winner. Jeff Rossiter grabbed the chip lead a few hours back but Gorr grinded back into the top spot, with James Keys building up his stack a bit as well.

They're all guaranteed a huge payday but there's quite a difference between first ($2 million) and third place ($700,000) so there's still a lot on the line for each player.

Big Names Falling in the Main Event

06:40 Europe/Stockholm January 29, 2011

2011 Aussie MillionsThere's been no respect shown to the big names of the poker world at the Aussie Millions main event, as Patrik Antonius and Chris Moorman have been the first two players sent to the rails.

Just six players are left in the main event, including current chip leader David Gorr, Randy Dorfman, James Keys, Jeff Rossiter, Michael Ryan, and Sam Razavi.

They're each now guaranteed to make at least $225,000 but the real money goes to the top two, with the winner getting $2 million and the runner-up $1,035,000.

Aussie Millions Winding Down

03:59 Europe/Stockholm January 29, 2011

2011 Aussie MillionsWhile King_Dirk managed a cash in yesterday's 6 Max side event, it unfortunately was a min-cash of $3,600 and not the deep run he and the bwin Poker Blog were hoping for, as far as giving us a chance to bring you more great news from Melbourne.

But it's been an awesome trip all the way around, as we had five players cash in the Main Event (PACLA2108, cubraka, GoldAA, indrich, and ChipLider85) and five more cash in side events (King_Dirk, Piraeus, Sandm4n, Baldomer0, and 810clubs). That means 10 out of 18 bwin Team members will take home money, a pretty amazing showing all the way around!

The main action today in Crown Casino is the final table of the Aussie Millions main event, with one of the remaining eight players finishing the day $2 million richer than they began it. While the bwin Team members are enjoying their last few days in the city before the farewell dinner tomorrow at Nobu, your bwin Poker Blog team is hard at work here at the casino, bringing you regular updates from the final table action.

8 Remain in the Aussie Millions Main Event

13:40 Europe/Stockholm January 28, 2011

2011 Aussie MillionsWith no player busting out of the Aussie Millions main event for hours, they've decided to halt play with 8 players left, as we're nearing midnight ocal time and have been at it all day.

They'll resume tomorrow with Randy Dorfman the chip leader, bringing nearly 4 million chips to the table when they resume play to determine a winner. Patrik Antonius is still alive, as is Chris Moorman among those looking to derail Dorfman and claim the title themselves.

brendo_8 just busted from the side event but King_Dirk is still in the hunt; the blogging crew is off to bed after another long day but hopefully we'll have final table actin featuring King_Dirk tomorrow in the side event.

Correction: TWO bwin Team Members with Big Stacks in the 6 Max Side Event

13:00 Europe/Stockholm January 28, 2011

2011 Aussie MillionsWe've just come across a nice little bonus here in Melbourne, as we just discovered that Team member brendo_8 is also still alive in the 6 Max NLHE side event, and sitting on a decent chip stack as well.

He's just been moved to King_Dirk's table, with the two seated next to one another. They're down to 38 players in the side event, so they're not too far off the money, and each have above average stacks to work with.

The bwin Team has a history of doing well in side events and this year's been much the same story, as both King_Dirk and Piraeus have taken down big cashes, with Baldomer0 and Sandm4n cashing as well.

Batman is Down but King_Dirk is Going Strong

11:53 Europe/Stockholm January 28, 2011

2011 Aussie MillionsMixed news here from Melbourne as Batman has busted from the $550 side event but King_Dirk is still sitting on plenty of chips in the $2,200 6 Max NLHE side event.

They're down to around 50 players or so remaining, so still a way to go before the money (and even further to the serious money) but King_Dirk was on 55,000 or so chips at last count, which puts him above stack.

The Aussie Millions Main Event is still eight handed at the moment; it appeared that Chris Moorman was headed out the door after bluffing away most of his stack versus Patrik Antonius but he's doubled twice after the dinner break to get out of critical territory.

Chris Moorman is still hanging in there in the Aussie Millions Main Event.

Another bwin Team Member in Action

09:31 Europe/Stockholm January 28, 2011

2011 Aussie MillionsWe're not sure how we missed him, but we actually just found another bwin Team member in action at the tables, playing in the $550 side event.

Somehow or other he has a lot of chips in front of him; our theory is that he's secretly stealing them from the stacks of his neighbors as he alternately regales them with tales of how awesome Spongebob Squarepants is and disagrees with everything they say.

Or it could be cracking an opponent's pocket queens with a hand like K9. You be the judge.

King_Dirk Running Good in 6 Max

08:51 Europe/Stockholm January 28, 2011

2011 Aussie MillionsWe're down to just King_Dirk in the $2,200 6 Max side event, but the good news is that he's sitting on a very nice stack, and likely close to (if not in) the top ten stacks overall.

That event drew a total of 225 runners, so first place will pay out $108,000 -- quite a lot of money and more than enough to take the sting out of a Main Event exit. 84 players were left in that event at last check, with the top 24 making the money.

They're down to 8 players in the Main Event upstairs, and they've been swapping the chip lead for quite awhile, with no single player pulling away. James Keys currently leads with 2.5 million chips but Randy Dorfman, David Gorr, and Patrik Antonius are all over the 2 million mark as well.
