Harrah's announced last week that an old tradition at the WSOP will be returning this year, with the Tournament of Champions (ToC) returning from a short hiatus. Last run in 2006, the Tournament of Champions will be a 27 player freeroll with a $1 million prizepool that pays out a cool $500,000 to the winner.
As far as who gets to play in the ToC, well, that's a little odd. Three spots in the field are already spoken for, going to the ToC winners from the previous years it was held in 2004-2006: Annie Duke, Mike Matusow, and Mike Sexton. Two additional seats have also been given to last year’s WSOP Main Event winner Joe Cada and WSOPE Main Event winner Barry Shulman. Two more seats are being reserved for "wild card exceptions"; Harrah's didn't provide any more details as to exactly what that means.
That leaves 20 spots left in the field, which will be determined by an online vote. Before you cast your vote for Batman, hold on a second, as you can only vote for "living WSOP bracelet winners". To cast your vote, visit the official online voting booth here.
